Heart

Darkness tried to steal my heart. The deception of a false love was trying to keep me from knowing the true love of the King. The King’s love, fierce love, pursued me.  His mercy kept me from self-destruction as I had learned to recognize and hear the sound of His voice.  As I turned my attention to His Word, my heart became soft. I then realized the sacrifice He made to set me free from the bondage darkness had me in. I couldn’t ignore the King’s call.

The King used a simple coffee cup, designed with my favorite color, to confirm His fierce love for me.  The enemy had filled my mind with confusion and disarray. He tried to place the lie in my head and heart that God didn’t love me nor my daughter enough to save her from the accident.  The King was listening to every word and knew every thought.  To counteract the enemy’s attack on my mind, He gave me a cup. He knew it would be something I would see every day to remind me to take refuge in Him, to trust Him.

As the surgeon finished explaining  our daughter’s physical condition and prognosis, and with tears in my eyes and darkness looming over my head; questions running through my mind, I looked up and saw a small window.  It had four panes held together by a wooden frame which formed a cross.  Looking at this reminded me of the King’s suffering— the bloody, scourged, beaten, and bruised body.  His suffering and death for my ransom, and the promise of hope and a life restored and made whole. All because of His fierce love for me.

All of our daughter’s vital organs were fractured, except her heart.

Teagan’s beautiful, passionate heart remained whole. This mystery was a depiction of her character—the love she had for people and the impact she made on their lives. She perpetuated and demonstrated the fierce love of the King wherever she went. The gift given was also surrendered. Teagan was my treasure, my alabaster box, whom I submitted back to the King—a more than worthy Savior.
